Themes and Topics

THATCamp attendees are also the program leaders! We have some broad ideas about timely topics in the digital humanities, so if you would like a program on any of these themes, feel free to turn it into a topic proposal!

Some of the themes we would like to explore at THATCamp include:

  • funding & sustainability
  • digitization & digital preservation
  • access to digital culture and resources; who has it? who needs it? should it be open? restricted? encrypted?
  • measuring and evaluating digital humanities resources and programs
  • libraries’ role in connecting students and adults
  • digital humanities in k-12 education
  • supporting critical thinking in relation to technology/the internet & using technology to support critical thinking
  • using technology to create or support safe spaces for dialogue

Workshops

THATCamp New Mexico will be hosting a few planned workshops. The workshops will last two hours. Please give us your feedback on topics!

  • Wikipedia Editing – what holes are there relating to New Mexico history, historical sites, government, folklore or other topics that you would like to see filled?
  • Would you rather attend an Overview of Digital Humanities or an Omeka skill building course?
  • Would you like to learn about using the new NM Cultural Atlas API?
  • Would you like to learn about working with makers to create the tools or displays you need?

Hello New Mexico!

New Mexico Humanities Council, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and the New Mexico Technology Council, is planning a new THATCamp for January 14, 2017 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center!

The Central New Mexico THATCamp will be convening from 10 am – 5 pm in the Domenici Education Building of the NHCC, then gathering for a mixer at Fatpipe ABQ, from 7 – 10 pm.

We are asking for a $25 registration fee, which can be submitted through PayPal or paid at the door with cash or check. This will cover lunch and a t-shirt. However, no one will be turned away because they can’t afford the conference fee!
